BAL Qualifiers: Germaine Roebuck stars as Olilers book a slot in the last 16

Germaine Roebuck registered an MVP performance as City Oilers defeated Tanzania side Army Basketball Club 71-63 in the ongoing Basketball Africa League (BAL) qualifiers to book a slot in the last 16.

Roebuck a new recruit at the Uganda eight time champions scored 31 points high and six rebounds to his name as he helped the Oilers to a massive victory.

Germaine Roebuck has previously featured for Calmet college of St Joseph in the USA(2019-2020), Nicaraguan side Chinandega (2020) and Beira Mar in Portugal (2020-2021).

With two wins from the three games, City Olilers finished second in the group behind Burundi giants Urani who managed to finish unbeaten as both sides will be part of the Elite 16.

The Elite 16 is the last qualifying round and will be played in Cape Town, South Africa in November 22-27.

Uganda representatives City Oilers are in Group F of the Elite 16 alongside  Cape Town (hosts), Ferroviario da Beira (Mozambique), Cobra Sport (South Sudan), Urunani (Burundi), COSPN (Madagascar), KPA (Kenya) and NBA Academy Africa where the top three teams will progress to the Basketball Africa League.

City Oilers journey in the qualifiers saw them have a quite easy start as they managed to defeat Materi Magic of Zambia 90-54 before succumbing to a 64-58 loss to Burundi side Urani.

The Monday Juruni coached side came into the Sunday game against ABC in a door die situation as both side had one win each and Oilers worked out to see off the Tanzanians in a 71-63 as they finished second.
