She Cranes flagged off for Fast five series

The Uganda national Netball team the She Cranes has been flagged off to New Zealand where they will take part in the Fast five series.

The team consisting of 12 players has been flagged off on Monday 31st October and they will participate in the tournament between the 5th and 6th November hosted by New Zealand.

During the flag off, state minister for sports Hon. Pewter Ogwang promised to lobby more funding from government towards the development of netball in the country but only if there is transparency in accountability.

Hon Peter Ogwang

“The moment I came in, I brought a bit of strict measures on how finances of government must be utilised. The moment you are given any money, you must account for the previous one. And I want to assure that the president of the Uganda netball federation has confirmed to me that she has accounted for all the money.” said Ogwang.

The team has been cleared all its dues as they head to the Fast five series which will act as part of their preparations to the Netball world cup in South Africa next year.

“These girls were paid all their dues for commonwealth games, they don’t owe us anything. And we as government we are meant to facilitate all their international engagements,” added Peter Ogwang.

The team under head coach Fred Mugerwa have been in camp for one week as they prepare for the tournament.
