Magic Stormers will fancy their chances to return to winning ways when they take on A1 Challenge on Wednesday in the National Basketball League at YMCA court in Wandegeya.
The Stormers, a team affiliated to Buddo SS, come into the fixture on the back of a 35-51 loss to Miracle Eaglets on Saturday, a result that snapped their three game winning streak.
But they will be fancying their chances against A1 Challenge, a side they beat 47-33 in the first round on April 1.
The win will see the Stormers complete a League double over A1, having achieved the same fate last season as well.
Magic Stormers will have Coach John ‘Mapeesa’ Omondi back from the FASU 3×3 Basketball Championship in South Africa.
With nine wins in 13 games, the Stormers have fronted themselves as the best of the rest, and is a team that may threaten the newly found big five of JKL Lady Dolphins, JT Lady Jaguars, UCU Lady Canons, KIU Rangers and KCCA Leopards.
They have added Patricia ‘Trish’ Nakirui from KIU Rangers and Maureen ‘Momo’ Atulinda from Miracle Eaglets during this concluded mid-season transfer window.
Kur Ajah has been one of the best performers in the Division, averaging a double double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, will once again be Magic Stormers player to watch out for.
A1 Challenge on the other hand, are literally on the rebuilding process.
The 2005 League winners, just like Nkumba Lady Marines, should be playing in the Lower Division after finishing bottom of the league, before FUBA moved to expand the Women Division to 12 teams just like the Men’s league.
After winning just one game in the first round, 1-10, A1 Challenge were proper contenders for the drop.
But the addition of Maria Gorret Angole and Vivian Nafuna Lusamba has been the game changer, with the side having won all the three games in the second round so far.
They beat Nkumba (62-56), Nabisunsa (53-49) and Kampala University(75-32).
The above, are the teams they are fighting relegation with, and are surely teams they should beat if they are to prolong their stay in top flight.
But in Magic Stormers, they will be facing a side with a better roster and a position higher up the table.
