FUFA Calls Off National Women U18 Team Camp In Njeru

FUFA has released the Uganda National Women’s U18 team team from its residential camp at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

This follows uncertainty of the scheduled CECAFA U18 Women tournament that the team has been preparing for.

The team has been in camp since June 12, 2023 in preparation for the tournament in Kenya.

“The players will now return to their respective schools and clubs,” reads a statement from FUFA.

“FUFA will communicate any new future developments from CECAFA about the tournament.”

The development is a blow to the Federation, coach Ayub Khalifa and the team that had put in a good shift in preparation for the tournament.

The tournament was meant to kick off on June 24 but the CECAFA and Football Kenya Federation pushed it five days ahead to June 29 to July 11 in Nairobi.

But as it stands, the tournament may not go on as planned.

Uganda, Hosts Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda and Zanzibar were the sides expected to take part in the Championship.

CECAFA had put this inaugural championship in place to help respective CECAFA member teams prepare for the upcoming FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers that will be played in November this year.
