Buganda’s Prime Minister (Katikkiro) Charles Peter Mayiga has cautioned players ahead of the 2023 Masaza Cup.
Mayiga made the remarks during the launch of the Masaza Cup’s 19th edition which gets underway on Saturday at Wankulukuku.
He also confirmed that His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi will grace the Opener between Busiro and Mawokotta.
“I have the honour to let you know that His Majesty the King reigns in his Palace and will on Saturday grace the 2023 Masaza Cup tournament opener,” Katikkiro Mayiga said.
“Football is a Sport, an industry; we want to enjoy it when we go to watch the players. And players cannot give us an enjoyable match unless they are disciplined.
“They must attend the coaching sessions religiously, they must avoid consumption of alcohol, be careful about sexual encounters especially with the threat of HIV Aids.
“As we know the Kabaka is a good will ambassador on the Continent for the prevention of Aids and also realise the UAIDS vision of ending HIV as a public health threat by 2030.”
Katikkiro Mayiga said that the players must be humble towards their managers, Coaches, Referees, fans and withing themselves as well.
“Do not be carried away by the declarations of your fans neither should you be destructed by the comments of the naysayers.”
He commended the tournament Sponsors including Airtel Uganda, Centenary Bank, Plascon Paints, UNAIDS among others.
“As you are aware, the Kingdom of Buganda is the most recognisable brand within East and Central Africa, and we take this very serious. We therefore want everyone involved in this tournament very seriously. I welcome all our partners and we shall hold and promote interest of our partners because we want a symbiotic relationship.”
He added: “Football is an industry and like any other industry, it requires professionalism, we want to teach an effective administration of the Sport. We want those managing the sport to plan, evaluate and to be focussed because that is what you do when you are running an industry.”
