Cricket Cranes Beat Rwanda, Set For Kenya Final

Uganda capped their round robin matches at the ongoing Continent Cup T20-Africa tourney in routine fashion following their 94 run win against Rwanda on Monday.

Riazat Ali Shah (41), Dinesh Nakrani (39), Fred Achelam (24), Simon Ssesazi (18), and team captain Brian Masaba were all handy with the bat, and youngster Siraje Nsubuga (3) with the ball, but it was Henry Senyondo who once again outshone everyone.

The 29-year-old has a developed a knack for leaving the pitch as the highest wicket taker. Against Rwanda, Senyondo again showed his bowling prowess, claiming four wickets at the back end of the innings.

The Player of the Match award being awarded to him was a no brainer. It was the fourth time he was picking this award, and with today’s wickets, Senyondo overtakes Kenyan duo of Viraj Patel and Shem Ngoche as the most wicket takers at this competition.

The Ugandan now has 17 wickets ahead of the two who have 16 each.

The match saw Fred Achelam who flew in as a reserve player play his first game at the tournament. Achelam came in for the Ill Cyrus Kakuru four days ago, but his opportunity came today and it came in an unfamiliar way.

With Roger Mukasa sitting out the game due to a discomfort he suffered against Botswana on Sunday, Achelam was handed the opening duties. It was the first time the 22-year-old was opening the batting for Uganda.

The game also saw the return of Masaba and Frank Nsubuga to starting XI. Kenneth Waiswa, Alpesh Ramjani and Mukasa sat out this one.

The teams take a break on Tuesday and return to action on Wednesday, the final day of the event. Uganda will play Kenya in that final on that day.
