Tusker-Lite Rwenzori Marathon Returns for Second Edition

The second edition of the Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon has been launched, with the event due Saturday, September 2 in Kasese.

This one follows the debut event last year which has since received International acclaim after it was ranked among the best marathon by USA Today.

Title sponsor Tusker-Lite have injected Sh800m for this year’s event as they continue to impacting lives in society.

“At Uganda Breweries Limited, we are known as an enjoyments company but we are more than that, it goes to the impact we create in the society,” said Emmy Hashakimana, the Marketing and Innovations Director at UBL.

“Why we are doing this Tusker-Lite Rwenzori Marathon is because it’s not only a great marketing opportunity but also because of its impact it creates in the society.

“We want to shine a light on the beautiful parts of Uganda and the more the Uganda economy grows, the bigger our company will be.

“Tuskerlite is about living a life with no limits, stretching your self as an individual and marathons are perfect ways to do, running is important in our healthy.”

Hashakimana said that they will be turning on the lights and promised a great experience after the event, vowing to bring out top class enjoyments.

Amos Wekesa, the brain behind the event, expressed his delight having received more sponsors on board including Standard Chartered on board.

“We are very excited about the sponsors because without them we wouldn’t have reached this far,” Wekesa said.

“We are very honoured that Tusker has walked this journey with us.”

“Last year was just the start, and we were about 700-800 runners and we are targeting to be as big as Kilimanjaro Marathon which brings in about 9000 runners to Moshi and Arusha.”

Wekesa said that they aim to attract more elite athletes and Ultra Runners to this event.

This year, renown Commentator Rob Walker and Holly Budge who is the first woman to skydive Mount Everest, will run this year.
