Bright Stars Deny Vipers Chance To Go Top

Tuesday, May 9
•Bright Stars 1-0 Vipers

Bright Stars beat title chasers Vipers 1-0 at Kavumba in an early kickoff.

Emmanuel Loki scored the all important goal to deny the Visitors a ticket to the top of the table.

Vipers off the back of a 1-0 dramatic win over KCCA, needed at least a draw to go joint top with SC Villa.

Loki’s goal came at the hour-mark when Villa fumbled with a good Noordin Bunjo corner for the South Sudanese to slot in from close range.

And the defeat leaves Vipers in second with 45 points, level with KCCA FC, and a point below leaders SC Villa.

There was less to admire from the Venoms as they struggled to create opportunities upfront, with chances rare and far apart.

Captain Milton Karisa had his long range drive denied by goalkeeper Hassan Matovu while Martin Kizza and Abubakar Lawal struck the woodwork.

The Stars had some good chances of their own, with Bunjo, Alex Mandela and Loki all missing good chances.

But the hosts’ best effort was in handling Vipers’ wide-men Kizza and Karisa, leaving Lawal and Rwothomio stranded upfront.

Vipers will have no time to rest, and will take a long trip to Arua where they will face Onduparaka on Friday.
