USSSA Girls Football: Defending Champions St Noa In Group A

St Noa Girls have been pitted in Group A of the Girls Football Secondary School Games 2023.

This follows the draws held on Thursday for the Games tournament due May 7-21 that will be held by Ntare High School in Mbarara.

St Noa will face off with other group A sides Masaka SS, Highway Sironko, Kiyinyi Memorial, Boni Consili and Nyabubale.

St Noa Girls beat defending champions and record winners Kawempe Moslem 1-0 in the USSSA girls’ football finals played at Pece stadium, Gulu on Monday last year.

Burundian striker Elica Kanyamuneeza scored the lone goal as St Noa won their maiden title, which was good revenge having lost the previous final against the side in Mbale.

Rines beat King of Kings 1-0 to finish third place.

Schools will also be competing in other six Sports disciplines – Basketball, Rugby, Hockey, Table Tennis, Badminton and Tennis (Lawn).

Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) CEO Christopher Mugisa said that they except about 4220 participants.

He said that the championship is a treasure because it acts as a nursery bed for the National Teams.

“National teams have benefited a lot from this tournament. It’s a nursery bed, it identifies, grooms, develops and passes the players to next level.

“We want to improve on this tournament by giving all kids to play at their age level. USSSA introduced the Online registration which has helped us remove over age players, non bonafide players and impersonators.

“Kids are enjoying their game at their level, and whether they win or lose.”
