Netball World Cup: She Cranes defeat South Africa to finish fifth, top in Africa

South Africa 47-49 Uganda

Uganda’s She Cranes defeated South Africa with a 47-49 score to finish fifth in the Netball World Cup.

In a tightly contested 5th place playoff at Cape Town International Convention Center. The She Cranes won the opening quarter 12-11 before losing to South Africa in the second quarter with the same scoreline.

With such perfomances, both teams went on half time break equal.

The third quarter saw all topsides equal on goals. The She Cranes got the edge when they took a two goal lead to the fourth quarter.

Mary Nuba Cholhok scored 29 goals for the She Cranes in the historical win, Skipper Irene Eyaru scored 10 while Shadia Nassanga also scored 10.

” The match went the way we wanted it to go. When we went into that match my last words to the players were that we shouldn’t make the mistakes we made in the first match we played against South Africa because we gave them a lot of respect and because of that they went ahead by many goals” head coach Fred Mugerwa said in the aftermath of the game.
