Guinea and DR Congo were other two countries to reach quarter finals after putting up a good display in the round of 16 games.
Guinea defeated Equatorial Guinea on a 1-0 score at Olympic Stadium of Ebimpe.
Equatorial Guinea who were reduced to 10 men after Federico Bikoro’s was shown marching orders in the 55th minute had a chance for an opener in the 68th minute but captain Emilio Nsue Lopez failed to convert.
The goal for Guinea came late in the 97th minute thanks to late header of Mohammed Bayo.
In other game of Egypt and DR Congo, both teams had to be seperated by extra time and then penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.
Elia Meschack gifted Congo a lead in the 37th minute before Mostafa Mohammed equalised in the 45th minute through a penalty spot.
The penalty scoreline ended 8-7 in favour of DR Congo.
The results will see DR Congo face off Guinea at quarter finals.
Action will resume today on Monday 29th with two games.
Cape Verde will be taking on Mauritania while defending champion Senegal will be taking on hosts Ivory coast.
