Eagles, Lady Swans Win First Circuit of Central Region 7s

Final results (Sunday)
Men: Eagles 24-00 Jaguars
Women: Lady Pacers 14-15 Lady Swans

With a 24-0 triumph over the Jaguars in the final, Kitante Eagles claimed the crown for the first circuit of the Central Regional Rugby 7s held at the Graveyard—Makerere.

The women’s category saw Lady Swans emerge as circuit one champions, narrowly defeating the Lady Pacers, who looked to be favourites,15-14 in the final.

Speaking after the final, the Eagles’ coach—Edmund Tumusiime, commended the team’s character as the driving force behind their victory in the opening circuit of the series.

“It was a tough game in the final, but the character from the boys was incredible. We started as 13 men yesterday (day one), but getting into the final, we were only nine men…so all the credit has to go back to the boys.” He stated.

Their victory in circuit one adds to their already impressive year. They have enjoyed remarkable success this far, emerging as champions in the central 15s league and securing the Championship title, ultimately qualifying for the rugby premier league.

With this recent victory, the Eagles now stand on the cusp of a significant breakthrough—earning promotion into the core 10 teams of the National Nile Special 7s.

The second circuit of the series will be played at MUBS on 8th July, 2023.
