The opening day of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) national rugby games saw schools from the central region assert their dominance over their opponents from other regions.

All the central schools won their games with significant margins, sending a strong message to their competitors and to each of themselves as well.

Defending champions Namilyango College were ruthless in their match against St. Jude SS, defeating the latter 64-03.

Kings’ College Budo, also made a statement crushing Kajjabwemi SS 60-00 to top their group.

The other two schools, Makerere College School (MACOS) and St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK), both won their games with identical 52-00 scores against Katatumba Academy and Kiira College Butiki respectively.

Mbarara High and Ntare School were awarded walkovers over Sir Samuel Baker and Masaba SS respectively.

The performances of the central schools on day one demonstrated their superiority in the sport. The other schools will therefore need to improve their performances if they hope to dethrone their central-based counterparts.

Namilyango, Budo and MACOS top their pools on day one while SMACK come second in Pool B behind Budo.

In the girls’ category, title holders-Entebbe Airforce Academy saw off St Katherine with a 34-03 victory to kickstart their title defence while the other fixture between Kitala SS and
Kijjabwemi was not played.

Day two will have SMACK taking on Kings College Budo in a pool B top-teams’ affair.
