Uganda Cup: Vipers Target First Leg Advantage

Vipers will be targeting a first leg advantage when they welcome a tricky Bright Stars side at Kitende on Saturday in the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

The Venoms, who are on top of the Uganda Premier League are also targeting a double this season to make history at the club.

They picked up a comfortable 5-2 win over Express, in their recent game this week on Tuesday at the same venue.

Against Express, Alex Isabirye’s men looked brilliant with goals coming from Bright Anukani, Milton Karisa, Yunus Sentamu and a late brace from Cromwell Rwothomio.

And now, they will be fancying their chances to stage the same performance on Saturday against Bright Stars.

Against Bright Stars, it will be time for revenge having, against a side that stunned them 1-0, to punch holes in their league title chase.

And Vipers, being at home, they will be seeking to finish the job at Kitende, given that they have not had the best outing at Kavumba, a venue for the return leg.

Meanwhile on the other hand, the Visitors Bright Stars will be having the same ambitions of picking up a positive result at Kitende on Saturday.

The Asaph Mwebaze coached side have picked up some good results, especially among the top sides this season.

Notably, they eliminated KCCA FC at the quarter final stage by 1-0 to reach this far.

And even their two meetings against Vipers in the league, they drew goalless at Kitende at the start of the season before beating them 1-0 recently at Kavumba.

Their head coach Asaph Mwebaze admitted that their sights are on the final in lira.

“It’s a very important game because we need to win this to her to the final in lira. Personally, it’s been almost ten years since I last took a team to the final of this tournament. I’m looking forward to this. We have played some beautiful football this year and now we have an opportunity to get ourselves to the final and win some silverware, he told the club’s media on Friday.

Against Vipers, they face a hungry side that has sights on a double this season.

But this, being their only hope for silverware this season, Bright Stars will bank on that to stage a better performance at Kitende.
