Proscovia Alako knocked 198 not out as Masaka SS beat Lords Meade by 233 runs in their third game of the National Girls Schools Cricket in Soroti.
After managing 42 against St. Mary’s Madera in the morning game, the Victoria Pearls opening batter was in no forgiving mood in the afternoon game as she hit 21 fours and 13 sixes.
She is now the leading batsman at the tournament with 260 runs. Alako also picked two wickets from her three bowled Overs, but it is her teammate Hasifa Naula who had the most with 4.
The victory keeps Yusuf Nanga’s troops second in Group B, behind Jinja SS who have played a game more.
The two face off tomorrow in what will be deciding game of who tops the group.
Jinja SS were also convincing winners against the same opponent who they played in the morning. Habib Mugalula’s side won by 153 runs to maintain their unbeaten streak at the competition. Mary Namiro (64) and Sharifa Kakwezi were the star players in that game.
Lords Meade haven’t won a game, but their head coach Eddy Agaba insists he’s impressed with their performance.
“This is a learning process for us; we are a new and an inexperienced unit,” Agaba said. “The results are not going our way, but I’m happy with how the team is performing especially our fielding.”
In Group A, Olila High still control proceedings that side after their 122 run win over Ndejje SS.
Jimia Muhammad missed to hit a half century by 3 runs so did Malisa Ariokot who got 43 not out. Lorna Anyait 23, Asumin Akurut 22 and Esther Iloku 13 were the other double digit hitters for Olila.
In bowling, Mary Nabuma with 3 topped the day’s chart.
Before Ndejje’s loss to Olila, they had lost to Light SS by 91 runs in the morning. Esther Namutebi picked 5 wickets for Ndejje, but their chase failed miserably as they were bowled out with only 5 runs after ten Overs.
Patricia Timong also had five wickets for Light SS against Ndejje.
Light SS have played a game more than Olila, but they trail their rivals. They are second in the Group that Olila leads with maximum points.
