Ogena Equals Scoring Record In KOBs Win

GAME DAY 17 RESULTS | Saturday 6th May, 2023

Buffaloes 18-08 Rams
Heathens 27-11 Mongers
Pirates 55-03 Walukuba
KOBs 57-10 Impis
Hippos 36-16 Rhinos

Pius Ogena was the star man as KOBs continued their dominance in the Nile Special Rugby league with a resounding 57-10 victory over Impis.

Ogena scored an hat-trick of Tries as the title contenders – KOBs – crossed the chalk nine times to extend their reign at the top of the league.

His three tries meant he now levels with teammate Justin Kimono and KOBs former player, Allan ‘Sokee’ Musoke as all time top try scorers in a single season with 22 tries.

With one game to the end of the season, Ogena stands a chance to surpass his fellow Kobs and register a new record should he score in KOBs’ final fixture.

Impis were only able to register one try and a penalty kick.

KOBs got off to a flying start, with Michael Otto scoring their first try within the first three minutes of the game before Henry Nsekuye kept Impis’ hopes alive with an early penalty to make the score 7-3.

Pius Ogena would then score two tries, followed by another by Jude Jjuko, to widen the gap between themselves and the visitors.

The first half ended with a score of 26-03 in favour of the hosts, and they continued to dominate in the second half, scoring an additional five tries amounting to 31 points.

Pius Ogena completed his hat-trick with a single try in the second half. Daudi Semwami, Karim Arinaitwe, Faragi Odugo and Joseph Aredo also scored a try each to add to KOBs’ tally.

While KOBs controlled the game, Impis tried to fight back, but they were no match for the KOBs.

Amos Asiimire managed to score a try for the Impis in his 150th cap for the team, but it was not enough to turn the tide of the game.

Aredo proved to be the star of the match, scoring a try and six successful conversions to earn himself a 17 points haul.

Ogena was not far behind, scoring three tries and earning 15 points for the team.

The victory puts KOBs in an excellent position to clinch the premiership title going into the final contest with their biggest opposition and fellow title contenders- Pirates, who also overwhelmingly defeated Walukuba 55-03 at Kings Park.
