Jailed Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi has requested the First Lady and Minister of Sports and Education Janat Museveni to intervene into the ongoing matters between Federations and the National Council of Sports.
Muhangi made the remarks just after he was remanded to Luzira by the Nakawa Magistrates Court.
The Boxing President who is being charged of forgery and uttering a false document, will return to Court on May 31.
“We request to have a chance to speak with the First Lady, and if possible with the President of Uganda,” said Muhangi.
“These issues have escalated and the next thing you will hear is that we have been shot dead, and then you call them Pigs.
“We have a lot of issues that haven’t gone right.”
Muhangi, who afforded a smile while he was taken away, added:
“I speak for the Boxers who are mostly Ghetto children so that they can have what they deserve.
“If the First Lady or President comes and get involved in these matters, it’s the only way we can get a redress and get to bottom of this.
Muhangi was initially arrested on Tuesday afternoon when he had gone back to CID to record a statement, and he was later held at CPS until he was produced in Court on Thursday.
Magistrate Ritah Neumbe Kidasa read two counts of forgery of accountability and utterance of a false Document, which Muhangi denied.
Boxers, Coaches and media among others had flooded Nakawa court, including Uganda Proffesional Boxing Commission President Salim Uhuru.
Uhuru said: “I have to show solidarity, he (Muhangi) is my personal friend. He is a fellow president like me, at amateur level.
“But what I can say is that the truth will come out and all this will come to an end.
Government should do it’s part. We want boxing to be improved right from the amateur level.
The beneficiaries are the Athletes themselves. We need justice, if there is a mistake, we need to go back and reorganize.”
This, was a day after Uganda Netball Federation President Sarah Babirye Kityo received bail after spending days in Luzira.
Muhangi earlier appeared before the Public Accounts Committee on issues of Accountability of Government funds (NCS).
It’s there where Muhangi and the former UBF Accountant Lydia Namutebi where handed over to Police for forgery.
It’s said that the Federation presented a forged receipt of Sh3.5m.
