Hockey: Weatherhead Ups Preps for League Return

The National hockey league table leaders Weatherhead Hockey Club have lined up a friendly against their development side Weatherhead Titans as they await the resumption of the league.

Weatherhead were involved in a Uganda Cup game that saw them beat City Lions
5-0 and 6-2 in the first and second leg respectively last weekend, but with the league not happening for another weekend due to the National Schools Championships set to take place in Mbarara, the side is looking to keep their players in shape hence the friendly.

“Our next game will be against our title rivals Wananchi. We have to prepare very well for it,” Steven Jjuuko, Weatherhead interim coach told The-SportsNation.

Weatherhead went into the break leading the table with 15 points, but that’s just on goal difference as the defending champions Wananchi boost the same number of points. The two bitter rivals will go head to head on 20th May when the league returns.

Weatherhead lost all but one of their five encounters against the record champions last season, but Jjuuko is adamant they have learnt from their mistakes and therefore fancy their chances of besting their rivals and regaining the league’s bragging rights.

“We lost to them because of mental issues. We lost our heads at crucial times. We’ve picked our lessons from those losses and know why we lost to Wananchi.

“As the saying goes, you learn more from failure than success. With that, we are strengthening in the weak points and hopefully, we’ll implement our lessons and get a win.”

The friendly game between Weatherhead and their development side is set to take place over the weekend at the Lugogo Hockey Grounds.
