Big League: The title chase still on as Mbarara City take care on relegated Northern Gateway

Mbarara City will have their last run for the tittle as they host bottom placed Northern Gateway at Kakyeeka stadium in Mbarara.

The Ankole lions sit in the second place with 57 points just a point below leaders Kitara FC who are on 58points and a win against Northern Gateway will see them surpass their rivals incase they fail to win their last league game.

The coach Sadiq Ssempigi coached side managed to secure their comeback to the Uganda Premier League just a season after being relegated as they claimed maximum points against Kaaro Karungi in a 2-0 win away from home.

Mbarara City is one of the teams with an organised backline which has seen them concede fewer goals alongside Police FC with both sides just letting in 19 goals. This has been a major reason which has seen them give Kitara FC a run for their money in the battle for silverware.

They face Northern Gateway who has only won four games and just 7draws from the 29 games played which saw them as the first team to be relegated to regional football.

Northern Gateway lost their previous game by a 2-0 score at home against Ndejje University.

Mbarara City will have to rely much on their striking partnership of Henry Kitegenyi and Jude Ssemugabi who have been influential to their side through the 2022/2023 campaign.
