AFCON U20 tournament: Uganda Hippos learn group opponents

Uganda U20 national team the Hippos have been officially pitted in group B alongside neighbors South Sudan in the up coming AFCON U20 tournament in Egypt 2023.

The Hippos learnt their group B  opponents in a draw conducted on Friday 23rd December in Cairo, Egypt. In group B they will face off with South Sudan, Congo and Central African Republic.

The hosts of Egypt are in group A alongside record Champions Nigeria, Mozambique and Senegal. The other group C has got national teams of Gambia, Tunisia, Benin and Zambia.

The top two teams from the three groups will qualify automatically to the quarterfinals of the tournament with the third best placed two teams also making their slots in quarterfinals.

The tournament is a qualifier to the FIFA U20 tournament which will see the top four teams qualify to the tournament that will be held in Indonesia.

Uganda qualified to their second consecutive AFCON U20 tournament after defeating South Sudan, they managed to finish second in their first appearance in Mauritania in 2021.
