Masaza Cup 2024 group draws held, Busiro survives group of death

The 2024 Masaza Cup group draws have been held on Wednesday 29th May in Bulange, Mengo.

All the 18 counties after confirming participation in the 2024 edition have been pitted in three groups with last years top seeded teams leading the groups.

The defending champions of Bulemeezi will have to start their title defence in the Bulange group which has Buddu, Kyadondo, Butambala, Buruuli and Bugerere.

Group B (Muganzirwaza) is tipped to be the group of death with the 2023 runners up of Gomba, Buwekula, Kyagwe, Ssingo, Mawogola and Kooki.

The 2022 champions of Busiro who failed to make it out of the group stages last year walked out of the meeting with all smiles on their faces after surviving the group of death and were pitted in the Masengere group.

The Masengere group has got last years third place finishers of Mawokota, Buvuma, Busujju, Ssese, Kabula and Busiro.

Speaking to the Busiro PRO Sinan Waiswa he was left with a smiling face as he asserted that this is a year for reviving their team with the draw favouring them.

“We are one of the teams to have quite a fair draw after avoiding the group of death, this year we are going to do our best and see that we return to the top.” Said Sinan Waiswa.

“This year we have returned to Sentema Ssaza ground where we have our hugest fan base, we are going to capitalise on that and see that we reach our targets of winning the trophy.” He added.

The meeting also passed the rules and regulations to govern this years tournament as some changes were made.

There was a change in the years of which players should play the Masaza tournament as it was revoked from four years and made open but with players who have featured in the Big league and Uganda Premier league or its equivalent being not eligible.
