All is set for the Singleton Match Play challenge that get underway this weekend at Entebbe Golf Club.

The challenge returns for a seventh season after it’s launch on Monday at UBL head offices in Luzira.

Singleton, the headline Sponsor, has committed Sh250m to make the much anticipated event colourful.

“This Singleton Match-play Challenge is a property that well loved, you are always sure that the gold will be good and there will be great challenge, and we are looking forward to the event,” said UBL Finance Director Eunice Waweru.

“The prospect of playing at the tournament is music to the ears of golfers, and as Singleton, we are happy to be part and parcel of this event.

“We are grateful to the players and organisers because your participation and involvement makes the tournament possible.

“I also have to express our gratitude to Entebbe Club for providing us with a good space and platform to show Singleton to the World.”

Entebbe Club Captain Sserwano Walusimbi commended the sponsors and pledged on behalf of the Club to organize and make the event a success.

“Golf is largely an individual Sport, but with match-play challenge, you have to pair up with someone and you play against another team,” Walusimbi commented on the playing format.

“It’s always a challenge because there is a lot of tension and it’s an interesting format.”

This event is usually held from January to July, but this year’s event will tee off more than six months after it’s usual time.

Walusimbi said that they were not ready as a club and have pushed to July so that “we give the golfers a better experience than before.”

“We want to always give the best, so we had to arrange it to be a good experience for both our partners and Players.”

He added:

“We want to thank UBL specifically the Singleton brand for partnering with us over the years, they have really injected a lot of money and created a lot of interest in the game of golf and we are thankful to that.

“This is always a format that is being loved, everyone has been asking when the Singleton will be starting, and we can’t wait to get underway.”

Patrick Ndase and Philemon Akatuhurira beat the pair of Joram Tumwine and Julius Borore to emerge as the winner last year.

Third place went to the pair of Charles Kagombe and Edrae Kagombe.
