Wananchi advanced to the semifinals of the Uganda Cup after annihilating KHC Originals 22:0 in aggregates in the Cup’s second round at the hockey grounds in Lugogo.
The defending champions didn’t have to break a sweat to advance to the semis. They scored 10 unanswered goals in the first leg before scoring another 12 unanswered ones in the second leg.
Jackson Musinguzi scored five of those goals. He scored a brace in the first leg before bagging a hat-trick in the second
The side will now face Rockets in the semifinals. Rockets lost 7:2 to Kampala Stallions in the second round, but they progress to the next round as the best losers.
The other game saw the inaugural winners of this Cup Weatherhead thump Makerere Stingers 11:2 in aggregates.
The first leg ended 5:2 and Weatherhead won the second one 6:0. Thomas Opio bagged a hat-trick in the first leg while Tumwesigye scored a brace. In the second leg, it was Tumwesigye who got the hattrick.
Weatherhead will battle KHC in the semis that will be played on 13th August and 24th September.
In the Women’s division, Wananchi will face Weatherhead in the semis in what will be a titanic clash while Deliverance will take on KHC Swan.
