Crested Cranes to Host Rwanda in Rwanda

Uganda Crested Cranes will host the 1st leg of the 2024 Women’s Olympic qualifier against Rwanda at the Kigali Pele Stadium in Rwanda on 12th July 2023.

The new developments were confirmed by FUFA on wednesday this week.

The Crested Cranes are set to meet Rwanda on 12th July 2023 in the first leg before the two meet a week after for the second leg.

In its released statement, the Federation said that there was no option, given the fact that there is no stadium in the country that meets CAF standards to hosts games at that level.

Even the other option, St. Mary’s stadium Kitende was unavailable as it is going under renovation.

And FUFA confirmed that the Federation of Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) gave them green light to use their facility.

“With the unavailability of CAF standard Stadiums for hosting matches of these magnitude, our option is to implore using venues outside the country until the Mandela National stadium is completed. The other option St. Mary’s stadium Kitende is not available for use as it is undergoing renovation works, The FUFA Communications Director Ahmed Hussein said.”

It is not a surprise to many Ugandans, given that fact even the Men’s team, Uganda Cranes had to host its home games in Egypt and Cameroon recently in the AFCON qualifiers.

Currently, the team is in camp and have had training sessions at the MTN Omondi stadium throughout this week.

They have had a couple of friendly games including that 9-2 win over Byafaayo select earlier on Monday.

The Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi coached the will also face off with Tanzania this Friday at Lugogo in another friendly game.
