The much anticipated annual KAVC International Volleyball tournament is back.
The tourney, organised by storied Volleyball club in the Country KAVC, will be held at Lugogo due August 4-6 2023.
KAVC President Irene Kiconco said that the headline Sponsors NSSF are still on board and their package will be unveiled at a later date.
“The objective of this tournament is to provide the best premier clubs in Uganda with affordable high level competitive environment,” the president addressed the press at UOC in Lugogo.
“We are expecting so many usual and new members to joins us for this edition.
“Our theme as usual is to Champion a better community healthy and behaviour through Sport, we believe that through participation in Sports not necessarily Volleyball, you are championing better healthy not just waiting to get to a level when you cannot do anything.”
The tournament that started way back in 1995, has attracted participation from both local and foreign clubs.
Olive Ekallam, tournament Chairperson, confirmed that the teams from Zambia and Zimbabwe will be making their debut at this year’s tournament as the tournament continue to expand wings.
A maximum of 20 teams for men and 16 for Women are expected to take part.
Teams will also come from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, DR Congo and South Sudan are expected to make the trip.
She said: “We pride in saying that we are expanding this game of Volleyball even wider.”
The venues will be Hockey Pitch and Indoor Arena in Lugogo.
The Primary Schools tournament will be held on July 23 in Namugongo where finalists in Under-12 and 14 (Girls and Boys) will compete at Lugogo on July 6.
The Ogranisers say that they want to nurture talent from the grassroots and give these young children the zeal to excel in the game of Volleyball.
KAVC teams have won this tournament the most – Men (7) and Women (8). The Men’s team last won it in 2018 when they beat Rwanda’s Gisagara while the Ladies last triumph goes way back in 2008 when they beat KCC.

“We are also eager to win, if you saw how the men performed in the concluded league, it’s been a build up of tactics here and there, ” Laloyo added.
“The preparations are in high gear. We are putting in all the effort to win our tournament and we will be glad.”
The defending champions are Rwanda’s APR who emerged winners in both categories – They beat KAVC in men and KCCA in women.
