Raoul Lukusa Kayembe: Congolese Joins Vipers Coaching Staff

Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC has added Lukusa Kayembe Raoul to their backroom staff.

The Congolese born coach has penned a two years deal and his official unveiling was made on Tuesday evening.

Kayembe will deputize Alex Isabirye who insisted to be the head coach or else leave!

“There is a new face at St. Marys Stadium, Kitende. Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) native Lukusa Kayembe Raoul is the new man that has been appointed as Vipers SC assistant coach,” reads part of a statement from Vipers.

Kayembe, a CAF A holder is a journey man having handled a number of clubs, but notably an 18-year experience from DRC.

He started his career at Butembo (2005-2007), moved to FC Mwanganza de Beni (2008), Beni Sports (2013-2014) and AS Kabasha de Goma DRC.

Kayembe also had stints at ASauphin Noir de Goma, AC Capaco de Beni, FC Etoile de Kivu, returned to AS Dauphin Noir in 2020, before joining AS Bantou de Mbuji Mayi, which is his latest club.

To many, Kayembe’s name is new in Ugandan football but according to Vipers website he played for KCCA between 2000 to 2002 and Kinyara FC (2003-2004).

At Vipers, he replaces Richard Wasswa, as the first assistant to Isabirye.

Earlier this week, Isabirye refuted reports that he was leaving the club, and admitted that he is still at the Kitende based side.

Vipers have already added three players including Brazilian striker Giancarlo Lopez Rodriguez, midfielder David Bagoole and left back Richard Matovu.

They are seeking to strengthen their squad that will represent in the CAF Champions League and back here at home.
