Denis Balungu scored a game high 20 points as KIU Titans beat UCU Canons 73-55 in the National Basketball League on Friday at YMCA Court in Wandegeya.

Balungu was 4-for-9 from three in a game he added 9 rebounds to his tally.

It was an improved performance for the forward who made just six points against JKL Dolphins on his debut.

And the display was a reminder of his quality especially on the offense, in a game KIU missed point guard Joel Lukoji.

Amisi Saidi Danny had 19 points and 9 rebounds while Edgar Munaaba contributed 9 points and 13 rebounds.

UCU who won the first round tie 69-68, looked like they were going to give KIU a good run for their money when they led 15-13 after the first quarter.

But the Titans got into the groove in the second quarter which they won overwhelmingly 20-9.

UCU were thwarted everytime they threatened to close the gap, and the Titans held onto their advantage until the final buzzer.

Peter Sifuma’s 17-point and 18-rebound double double was in vain, and the same can be said of Jerry Kayanga and Jimmy Otim’s 11 points each.

It’s win number 11 in 13 games for KIU Titans, who have without doubt fronted themselves as the team to challenge ‘the Dictator’ in City Oilers who are chasing a ninth straight League title this season!
