Women T20 League: Soroti Seek To Reclaim Top Spot

Soroti City Cricket Club will look to reclaim the league’s top spot on Saturday when they meet Pioneer Cricket Club in the National Women’s T20 League at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

When the Kwibuka tourney break arrived, Soroti City were on top of the log, but after not playing since their two wins against Jinja SS on June 3, they find themselves demoted to the third position.

Both Olila High and Aziz Damani continued with league action during that break, and their respective victories propelled them to the first and second positions respectively.

Olila followed their dramatic victories against Damani with wins over Jinja SS and Tornado Bees which saw them dislodge their City rivals from the top spot.

Soroti City have played two games less than both Olila and Damani, but they know comprehensive wins against Pioneer will see them back on top as Damani only sit second on net run rate.

Damani who are the defending Champions returned to winning ways with their wins against Jinja SS. They will look to continue with that run when they take on Wanderers at the Green Oval in Entebbe on the same day. They can not afford any more slip ups if they want to retain the title they have won four times in a row.

Olila lead the table standings with 14 points, two ahead of both Soroti and Damani, but with them being out of action this weekend, there’s a likelihood of them finishing the weekend placed third.

In the other league games in the women’s division, Jinja SS will face Tornado Bees at the Jinja Oval. The fixture presents Habib Mugalula’s team with an opportunity to return to winning ways.

Tornado Bees haven’t won a single game in the league this season so the students will fancy their chances of edging this double header.
