Mbale Heroes FC have been officially Promoted to FUFA Big League 2023-2024.
The ‘Bakhebi’ (local circumcision sergoens) beat an improved Bukedea Central FC side 2-0 in the 2nd leg of the Regional League Playoffs on Thursday afternoon at Mbale Stadium.
Forward Akram Shafic Muzanyi gave Mbale Heroes a deserved lead with a 24 minute strike, leftback Emmanuel Shikanga doubled the lead with a 57th minute header. It was Shikanga’s first goal since joining Mbale Heroes in the January transfer window.
Mbale Heroes came in today’s tie already assured of promotion after winning the first leg of the playoff 5-0 at Emokori Playgrounds in Bukedea on 17th June 2023.
Wycliffe Mwambu, the Mbale Heroes club chairperson said the team’s target is to play FUFA Big League for one season and gain promotion to Uganda Premier League
“We are going to play Big League for one season and get promoted to Uganda Premier League because that is where we belong, not Big League! ” – Wycliffe Mwambu told the press in the post match interview at Mbale Stadium.
Mbale Heroes also plans to make reinforcement in the technical and playing staff to compete favorably in the FUFA Big League.
“Money is not our problem, we shall buy every player that the tachnical department will need, some players are leaving but we would wish them keep our best performers. We shall also reinforce the coaching staff”~ Wycliffe Mwambu added.
After promoting the team to Big League, coach Abbey Bogere Kikomeko bid farewell to Mbale Heroes FC. He is reportedly going to join Bul FC.
“Next season I won’t be with you but i appreciated what you have done for me. It is good i have promoted the team to Big League and groomed other coaches like Jaja Walu (Ronald Walusimbi), Edgar (Edgar Bwogi Sharp) and Yasin (Yasin Kilambaile) should also be on this team so that we promote our own” ~ Abbey Bogere confirmed.
Coach Bogere jokingly hinted on moving with some Mbale Heroes players to his next club.
“I will come back if i fail where i am going but don’t quarrel if i go with some of the players. I will also add some players to this team” Said Abbey Bogere after promoting Mbale Heroes FC. #WabombaSports
