Egypt sealed a place in 2023 AFCON tournament thanks to a hard fought 2-1 win over Guinea.

The Pharaohs had to recover from a goal down after Serhou Guirassy had given Guinea a 26th minute lead in Marrakech, Morocco.

Mahmoud ‘Trezequet’ Ahmed equalised before half time and later turned provider for Mostafa Mohamed in the 79th minute.

The win sends Rui Vitoria’s Egypt to 12 points, Guinea in second remain on 9 while Malawi and Ethiopia are on three points despite with a game in hand in Group D.

It’s strong to note that two teams from each group qualify for AFCON that will be hosted in Ivory Coast early next year.

Guinea on the other hand, will need at least a draw in September in their last group game to qualify from Group D.

Besides hosts Ivory Coast, the other teams that qualified earlier for 2023 AFCON are Morocco, Algeria, South Africa, Senegal, Burkina Faso and Tunisia.

This is the 26th time Egypt are qualifying for AFCON. They have won the competition seven times, with the last one coming in 2010 in Angola when Gedo’s goal edged Ghana.
