Defending champions Busiro and Mawokota will open the 2023 Masaza Cup, it’s official.
The Muganzirwaza group opener will be held on Saturday, June 24 at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.
The developments were confirmed on Tuesday by Henry Ssekabembe Kiberu Minister for youth, sports and recreation in Buganda government, during the release of the fixture for the 19th edition.
Ssekabembe said: “We always have an element of CSR in all our Kingdom activities. And this edition, we shall continue with Men against Aids to save the Girl Child.”
“I want to urge all the County Chiefs, teams, Management Committees and the fans to rally behind their teams and give them necessary support.”
Busiro gets the honour to host the opening fixture having beaten Buddu to claim their maiden title last season.
However, due to lack of facilities in the region, the fixture us hosted in Kyadondo Ssaza.
It remains to be seen if the Kabaka will grace the opening fixture.
I think the new format of 3 groups with 6 teams will strain teams in terms costs especially transport but let’s wait and see. The advantage is that it may be more competitive.
The cup has started on a high note.
