CAF Confederation Cup Final: Yanga Suffers First Leg Loss

Sunday, May 28
*Young Africans (Tanzania) 1-2 USM Alger (Algeria)

Young Africans lost 2-1 at home to USM Alger in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final played in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

Fiston Mayele levelled for the hosts deep in the second half after Aimen Mahious had put the Algerians ahead, but the Visitors found a late winner through Islam Merili.

USM Alger found the opener inside the first half when Mahious headed a freekick from Brahim Benzaza.

But after missed opportunities, Yanga fans had something to celebrate thanks to a Mayele thunderous strike in the 82nd minute.

But the Visitors quickly got back into the lead when Merili slotted in after good link up play with Khaled Bousseliou inside the box.

And now Yanga, who is without Uganda Cranes midfielder Khalid Aucho, faces a huge mountain to climb in the return leg.

They will hope to overturn the deficit and win the CAF Confederation Cup title on June 3 at Stade Du 5 Juliet in Algiers on June 3.
