Both Wanderers Cricket Club and Jinja SS secured their first victories in the National Women’s T20 League after the two sides cancelled themselves in the double header game that was played at the Lugogo Cricket Oval on Saturday.

Wanderers went into Saturday games on the back of four losses, and they started the day with another defeat. Jinja SS who were playing their first game in the league this season beat Sam Walusimbi’s team by eight wickets, with the side utilizing only four batters to chase Wanderers’ score of 98.

The siblings of Rita Musamali (61) and Susan Kakai (21) had combined to give Wanderers a healthy score, but the 45 runs from Stephanie Nampiina who was returning to Jinja SS from Aziz Damani, Hope Mbeiza’s 29 and the poor bowling from Wanderers who gave out 21 extras ensured the students’ success in their chase.

Wanderers victory however, came in the afternoon game that they won by 13 runs. They won the toss, and went for the bat, and unlike the morning game, were able to protect their score.

Musamali again was the highest scorer in the team with 47. She was followed by Naomi Kayondo (29) and Sarah Walaza (12).

Erax Eronde and Rashida Tikabula each picked two wickets, and with the bat, Nampiina registered 32, Rukia Namuleme 17, Mary Namiro 19, and Whitney Nassuna 11, but it was not enough to hand Habib Mugalula’s team a second win.

Jinja SS leapfrog Wanderers in the table standings. They rise up to fourth, just two points behind Olila High School who are placed third. Wanderers meanwhile, stay fifth.
