Gambia reached the FIFA U20 World Cup after a shocking 2-0 win over France at the ongoing tournament in Argentina.

Adama Bodjang’s shot deflected off Tanguy Zoukrou for Gambia’s opener in the 13th minute.

Gambia missed from the spot in the 56th minute when Captain Alagie Saine was denied by the French goalkeeper.

France equalised through Wilson Odobert but Gambia quickly restored their lead through Mamin Sanyang.

Gambia who are making their return to the World Cup since 2007, have now won two in as many games having beaten Honduras 2-1 in their opener.

They now lead Group F with six points and have progressed to the Round of 16 before facing South Korea on May 28 in their last group game.

It has been a wonderful year for Gambia’s Young Scorpions who reached the finals of the AFCON U20 before losing to Senegal in March in Cairo, Egypt.

Tunisia also beat Iraq 3-0 to move close to knockout. Nigeria reached the round of 16 on Wednesday
