CAF Confederation Cup: Aucho, Yanga On Brink of History

Wednesday, May 17
•Marumo Gallants (South Africa) Vs Young Africans (Tanzania), 7pm
•USM Alger (Algeria) Vs ASEC Mimosas (Ivory Coast) – 10pm

Uganda Cranes midfielder Khalid Aucho and his Tanzanian side will be targeting a place in the CAF Confederation Cup final when they take on Marumo Gallants of South Africa.

No Tanzanian side has reached the CAF Confederation Cup final, and Yanga seek to write new history as the sides face off at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Yanga won the first leg 2-0 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on May 10, with Stephane Azizi Ki and Bernard Morrison on target.

“We are very much aware of the advantage that we have but right now, our focus is on the game that we are yet to play because in football, anything can change and certainly, we are putting the advantage behind us,” said Yanga coach Nasreddine Nabi.

“We know the quality of the opponents and we respect them, and we will make sure that we start afresh and put last week’s game behind us.”

It will be a huge mountain to climb for Yanga despite holding a 2-0 healthy lead.

And Marumo are expected to do all it takes to eliminate Yanga. They have declared Wednesday’s game as free entry with the hope that the locals will come out in their numbers and rally the team to overturn the deficit.

Its strong to note that Marumo Gallants is home for Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Ismail Watenga.

It has been an impressive run for Yanga who topped Group D with 13 points ahead of US Monastir (Tunisia), Real Bamako (Mali) and TP Mazembe (DR Congo).

They then eliminated Rivers United thanks to a 2-0 win on aggregate at the Quarterfinals to reach this stage.

Aucho who started the first leg back home, is expected to reprise his role in the middle of the Park alongside Yannick Bangala.
