Olila High School won their third consecutive National Girls Schools Cricket Week title following their 5 wicket win over City rivals Light SS on Saturday in the final played at St Mary’s Madera School in Soroti.
Heading into the final, the talk of the town was how one sided the final would be, and indeed, it turned out that way.
Light SS through their captain Patricia Apolot won the toss and deemed it right to bat first. They were only let to put on board 54 runs as Olila got out 9 wickets. Only Apolot with 17 scored in double figures, and as soon as she was dismissed, Light knew it was game down for them.
Patricia Timong who has scored the most runs for her team in this tournament was caught in the second Over after facing eight balls and managing just two runs.
It was an easy chase for Olila who end the tournament without losing a single game.
Light, coached by Sandra Acwao had tried to control the damage. They picked up five wickets inside the tenth Over, but the score they had set for their rivals was way too cartoon for them to defend.
In the end, Asumin Akurut with her only two runs ended the chase in the eleventh Over. Olila Openers Jimia Muhammad and Lorna Anyait got 18 and 12 runs respectively, but Anyait won the Player of the Match award; her runs added to the two wickets she picked were thanks to that.
Malisa Ariokot had the most with 3, but had only six runs that came out of a single boundary hit. Immaculate Nandera also had two. Apolot and Winnie Itwaro both had two.
For the third place playoff, Jinja SS beat Masaka SS by 21 runs.
Flavia Mbambu from Mt. Rwenzori Girls SS won the Best Wcket Keeper award with 10 dismissals while Bridget Mbambu from the same school with nine dismissals won the Fielder of the tournament award.
Patricia Timong witt 20 wickets won the Best Bowler award While Jmia Muhammad with 227 runs shockingly beat Proscovia Alako who scored 502 runs to the Best Batter award.
But, Alako won the ultimate one, the Player of the Series award.
