UCU Canons recovered from 21 points down to beat KIU Titans 69-68 in a pulsating National Basketball League encounter at YMCA Court in Wandegeya.

The Titans were on course for a ninth straight win when they led by 21 points minutes into the second quarter.

But UCU Canons who started the game before coach Nicholas Natuhereza, staged a great comeback and they cut the deficit to 11 going into the last quarter.

The UCU continued their surge, and after a strong 8-0 run, Peter Sifuma drilled in a corner three to send them up by one with just seconds on the clock.

The Titans had a chance to win it by the last play of the game, but Joel Lukoji, Innocent Ochera and Joseph Chuma all fluffed successive chances to score a game winning shot.

And the result sees KIU lose their first game since falling to City Oilers in the league opener.

It’s a sixth win in a row for the rejuvenated UCU Canons, and it will take a good beating to stop this side.

Peter Sifuma led the way with a 17-point and 20-rebound double double while Kevin Kasobya and Lwabaga Ibanda had 14 and 13 points respectively.

Ochera (13), Isaiah Mabeny Ater (12) and Lukoji (11) reached double digits in scoring for KIU but their efforts were in vain.

The loss revealed more work for coach Julius Lutwama after his side blow away a big lead before they were limited to just eight points in an entire fourth quarter.

It was a good night for the UCU franchise whose Lady Canons eased past Miracle Eaglets to win 79-47, with player Shakirah Nanvubya the acting coach
