Fortebet Real Star Awards Recognise April Excellence

Six athletes were recognised at Fortebet Real Star Sports Awards for their outstanding performances in the concluded month of April.

The awards, sponsored by Fortebet Uganda and Jude Colour Solutions, were held on Tuesday at Lazio Restaurant in Kampala.

SC Villa striker Charles Bbaale was named the best Football player in April, beating competition from Tonny Kiberu (NEC) and Shakirah Nyinagahirwa (Kawempe Muslim).

Bbaale scored five goals in as many games to help the Jogoos tighten their grip at the helm of the Uganda Premier League.

Sydney Gongodyo was recognised as the best Rugby player after picking a man of the match when Pirates beat Heathens at Kyadondo.

The other Rugby nominees were Pius Ogena (KOBs) and Aaron Ofoyrwoth (Uganda Sevens).

Consy Aweko won the award for the best Cricket player after captaining Victoria Pearls to Victoria series and Capricorn Series in Lugogo and Namibia respectively.

She picked six wickets in Namibia, and beat fellow teammates Janet Mbabazi and Kevin Aweno to the gong.

In Netball, the award went to Christine Namulumba of Prisons who was nominated alongside Maggie Baagala (NIC) and Shadiah Nassanga of KCCA.

Namulumba who finished the season as the top scorer, scored 181 goals in the last four crucial games during the month against Busia Greater Lions, UCU, KCCA and NIC.

Sarah Ageno of JT Lady Jaguars beat City Oilers duo of Luak Ruai and Fayed Bbaale to the award of Best Basketball Player in the month of April.

Ageno scored 71 points, 47 rebounds and 18 assists, adding three player of the match awards to her tallies.

Juma Abiti, nominated alongside Joseph Reagan Akena and Abdu Kakeeto, was named the best golfer.

He was Uganda’s best player at the All Africa Junior golf championship at Lake Victoria Serena Golf resort and Spa.

“We thank the Federations and teams who have enabled these athletes compete favourably, the players are also putting in tremendous shifts and are giving us sleepless nights for us to come up with the best,” said Awards Proprietor Isaac Mukasa.

“We are seeing the awards heading to the direction we wanted and dreamt of, this year we are celebrating five years. We want to go bigger than many expected us to reach.
