UCU Canons Survive Kampala Rockets Scare

UCU Canons managed to overcome a battling Kampala Rockets in a thrilling National Basketball League game at YMCA court in Wandegeya.

The Canons struggled in the opening quarter to trail 12-21 and were down by six points at one stage in the last quarter.

But UCU showed their class down the stretch to finish the fourth quarter with a 9-0 run and seal a hard fought victory.

They benefited from Kampala Rockets 24 Turnovers and out-rebounded the side 52-42 in a game the Rockets were sent on the line only four times.

Peter Sifuma came out big with a 16-point and 18-round double double while Ibanda Lwabaga and Rogers John Baptisalt Dauna had 13 and 10 points respectively.

Emmanuel Okumu (20pts & 12 rebs), Francis Kasinde (13), John Dombo (12) and Gideon Kasasa (10) reached double digits in scoring for the Rockets.

Its win number six from nine games for third-placed UCU who also beat Rezlife Saints 87-35 on Saturday in Mukono.

This is loss number six for the newcomers, Rockets, who have two wins to show so far.

Elsewhere, KIU Titans beat KCCA Panthers 84-71 for an eighth straight win this season.

Maggie Baagala scored a game high 28 points as Kampala University beat Angels while Magic Stormers eased past Nkumba Lady Marines.
