For the first time since it’s inception in the early 2000s, the National Girls Schools Cricket Week will be held outside Kampala.
The competition that is aimed at promoting the gentleman’s game among girls in schools will be held in Soroti at three various grounds, and it is slated to bowl off on May 6, with 15 schools set to participate.
The Chairman of Soroti Cricket Association Felix Musana expressed his delight of Uganda Cricket Association granting Soroti the hosting rights.
Musana told The-SportsNation: “This is a great opportunity for us to showcase our talent to the locals in Soroti that have missed to see their girls in action at home for all this time.
“We hope that we can crown it off and retain the trophy here.”
The host city will be represented by three schools including debutants St. Mary’s Madera, Light Secondary School ( runners up in the 2018 and 2019 editions) and one of it’s sports powerhouse Olila High School who have won this trophy two times, and who will enter this edition as defending champions.
This annual event will also have Jinja secondary School, Iganga Secondary School Lords Meade and Victoria High School from the Nile region, Kilembe Secondary School and Mt. Rwenzori Girls Secondary School (Western region), Ndejje SS, Kings College Budo, Gayaza High School, St. John’s SS (Central region), Masaka SS and Gulu High School from the northern region compete.
Action will run between May 6 and 13 at the Soroti Cricket Grounds, Teso College Aloet and the St. Mary’s Madera Grounds.
