Table

  1. Petro de Luanda 3-0

  4. Cape Town 1-2
  5. SLAC 1-2
  6. City Oilers 0-3

City Oilers slipped to bottom of the Nile Conference group of the Basketball Africa League after a 68-96 loss against Guinean side SLAC.

The loss, third in as many games, follows previous defeats against Petro de Luanda and Al Ahly.

But unlike previous displays, there was less to admire from the Oilers this time as the side struggled to move the ball and execute on offense.

James Justice (30) and Falando Jones (20) totalled 50 points while the whole Oilers bench, outside James Okello (2), produced zero points combined!

SLAC led 24-13 and opened a 19-point gap at halftime. But there was some sense of belief that Oilers could fight back given their recovery from 33 down against Al Ahly in their previous game.

But when SLAC won the third quarter 33-24 to extend their lead to open a 24-point lead going into the last quarter, all hopes were washed away.

And SLAC continued to dominate at either side of the court before sealing a comfortable 96-68 win.

Uchena Iroegbu and Dane Anthony scored 22 and 20 points respectively for the Guinean side.

And the Oilers are now in a rabbit hole, finding themselves in a situation where they must win their remaining two games against CFV Beira (Mozambique) and Cape Town (South Africa) to have a chance of qualifying to the BAL playoffs round in Kigali, Rwanda next month.
