Uganda suffered their third defeat at the Capricorn Eagles Quadrangular Series following a 8-wicket loss to Hong Kong on Sunday at the United Cricket Grounds in Windhoek, Namibia.
It was an average performance from the entire Ugandan team, with Uganda’s strongest unit-bowling- especially letting down the team.
Usually a defendable score for the Victoria Pearls, they set 98 in their Innings, and despite being bowled out with four balls left, it was a score seen as one that could win the Pearls the game.
Not an outstanding performance from any particular batter, but Gloria Obukor (17) who was playing her first game at the tournament, Janet Mbabazi (27) and Rita Musamali (18) – the only double digit hitters – had given Uganda a reasonable score to defend, but both the fielding and bowling units were not up to the task on Sunday.
Irene Alumo bowled out Marika Hill in the third Over, but it took Uganda 12 more Overs to find another wicket.
The Wicket of Kary Chan fell in the 15th Over, but damage had already been done at this point.
Eleven (11) runs from 30 balls was what was required when that Over got done.
Every Ugandan bowler conceded in double figures, with Phionah Kulume who bowled only two Overs conceding 12.
Alumo who picked the two wickets for the Victoria Pearls suffered 16.
Captain Consy Aweko, Stephanie Nampiina and Sarah Akiteng each conceded 17 while Mbabazi suffered the most with 20.
Natasha Miles, a not-out, scored a half century for Hong Kong while Chan before her dismissal had put on board 25.
Hong Kong who lost to Uganda on Thursday by 3 wickets, were very mean with their bowling. Unlike that day when they gave out 19 extras, Hong Kong gave out only four in today’s game. Betty Chan and Ruchitha Venkatesh each plucked three wickets.
Despite the loss, Uganda remain second on the table. However, they are now level on points with Hong Kong and only second on net run rate.
Uganda will return to action on Monday against hosts and table leaders Namibia who the Victoria Pearls lost to by 8 runs on Saturday.
Namibia are on a 100% run in this tournament as they haven’t lost a single game.
