Uganda Premier League side KCCA FC have appointed Jackson Mayanja as the new coach, it’s official.
Mayanja takes over the reign on an interim basis until the end of the ongoing 2022/23 season.
Mia Mia as he is commonly known, Mayanja replaces Morley Byekwaso who resigned on Sunday after Uganda Cup exit in hands of Bright Stars.
The Club has also confirmed parting ways Kaddu Badru Mukasa (Assistant Manager), Richard Malinga (Assistant Coach / Junior Team Coach) and Walugembe Fahadie Yahaya (Scout).
Kaddu, commonly known as Coach KB, was in charge of KCCA FC’s 2-0 loss away to URA at Lugazi on Wednesday.
Mayanja will be deputised by Sam Nsanziro who joined the team midway this season while Saka Mpiima, Moses Oloya and Felix Ayobo are among retained and will remain on the Technical team.
Mayanja who is a former player at KCCA, also previously coached the side in 2005.
Mayanja – Best Decision?
Mayanja is held in high regard at KCCA, hugely because of what he won at the Club as a player.
Phillip Omondi, Jimmy Kirunda, Sam Ssimbwa, Moses Nsereko, Tom Lwanga, Charles Matsiko, John Latigo…. name them all, Jackson Mayanja sits on this table as well among KCCA legends.
Rightly so having won two league titles and as many Uganda Cups back then, and he turned down big-money moves to Express and SC Villa, further winning the hearts of fans at Lugogo.
It’s his coaching abilities that have not measured to even half of what he showcased during his active playing days.
Stints at URA, Bunamwaya, Kyetume among others failed to yield many fruits, although he helped the latter earn UPL promotion.
Morley Byekwaso left after a string of poor results and he blamed ‘Player Power’ for his failure.
And that will be Mayanja’s first key area of focus if he is to achieve the set targets in this short period of time.
They sit second with 38 points, five below SC Villa who have played two more games. Although Vipers look to have a better advantage as they have four games in hand on Villa.
It is reported that Mayanja requested to work with former Coach Mike Mutebi, and strong reports have it the the latter will be the head coach starting next season and deputised by Mia Mia.
But for now, all eyes will be on Mayanja, and he has less time to make things right before SC Villa visits Lugogo on Sunday!
