Rezlife Saints needed overtime to overcome Ndejje University Angels for their first win since earning National Basketball League promotion.
Timothy Thok put up a player of the match performance to weigh in with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
Emmanuel Okot also had a double double of 16 points and 19 rebounds, Richard Anyunva and Michael Otieno added 15 and 11 points respectively.
It’s the first win for the Lubowa-based side who had lost to Power, City Oilers and KIU Titans.
Ndejje will have themselves to blame in the first place for the loss, having started the game with just five players and no substitute.
The rest of the players arrived midway through the first quarter, alongside head coach John ‘Mapeesa’ Omondi.
They got out of the blocks quickly though, leading by as many as seven points in the opening exchanges.
But when Rezlife got into the groove, Ndejje did not sniff the lead until two minutes into the fourth quarter when Jonathan Oketch scored from a driving layup, 61-59.
It remained a neck-to-neck contest and James Obrack tied it for Ndejje, 77-77, with a good jumper with few seconds on the clock.
Rezlife had a good opportunity to finish it late only for Caleb Katumba to fluff a three-point attempt to necessitate Overtime.
The Saints edged the five-minute additional period 13-11 before the final buzzer ignited wild celebrations from their cheerleaders and fans at large.
Ndejje’s Haron Alinaitwe (19), Cikom Monybai (16) and Joseph Kumbai (14) scored in double digits but the efforts proved not enough on the evening.
With Kumbai’s minutes limited on the night, Rezlife outrebounded Ndejje 73-37!
But Ndejje failed to capitalize on Rezlife’s 45 turnovers to grind out a needed result.
