Rays of Grace shootout Paorihner to defend Odilo tittle

The second edition of the Odilo schools championship climaxed on Wednesday 7th September as Buganda region school Rays of Grace defeated Paorihner to defend the tittle.

Rays of Grace emerged winners with a 5-4 penalty shootout after the full time score remained goalless at the FUFA technical centre in Njeru.

Odilo is a primary schools tittle organised by FUFA and the Buganda region school won their second consecutive tittle having won the inaugural edition in 2019 before the COVID out break.

Richard Kamanzi the head coach of Rays of Grace ushered praise to his players and thanked the federation for a platform well laid for young player to showcase their talent.

“We have had a good platform for the young boys to expose their talents and I want to thank FUFA for this initiative. I want to also thank my players for showing character and composure throughout the tournament. It has not been easy for us to win but the determination to keep pushing helped us.” said Richard Kamanzi.

Michael Kawooya from Rays of Grace was named the most valuable player of the tournament after showcasing a brilliant talent.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) also held the first edition of the primary schools girls championship and Bombo Umea clinched the trophy after defeating Habanom Academy in the finals.

All the finalists from both the boys and girls categories will represent Uganda at the East African games for primary schools in Arusha later this year.

• Fair play Award: Nansana Modern

• Top Scorer: Joseph Langol (Paorihner)

• Best Goalkeeper: Abdulrahman Sudais (Rays of Grace)

• MVP: Nicholas Kawooya (Rays of Grace)
