CHAN Qualifiers: Uganda defeat Tanzania to claim first leg advantage

Uganda defeated Tanzania 1-0 in the he first leg of the CHAN Qualifiers game played at the Benjamin Mkapa national stadium.

Youngster Travis Mutyaba’s sole late goal in the 89th minute guided the cranes past the Taifa giving Uganda the first leg advantage.

Mutyaba came in the 79th minute to replace Milton Kariisa and was gifted a golden opportunity as Muhammad Hussein lost the ball to the youngster who dribbled past one defender as directed his shot past goalkeeper Aishi Manula.

The Taifa stars put the ball in the back off the net but it was ruled out for offside as Daniel Lyang was in an offside position before slotting the ball in the net.

There is still work to do as the cranes failed to create goal scoring opportunities in a weaker Tanzania side who didn’t put up any threat on the day.

Uganda will carry a slim 1-0 advantage to the second leg which will be at St. Mary’s stadium in Kitende on the 3rd of September.

The winner on aggregate will qualify for the CHAN tournament will be held in Algeria in January 2023.
