AWCON Qualifiers: Crested Cranes suffer Algeria defeat at home

The Uganda National Women football team suffered a 2-1 loss in their second qualifying round against Algeria at home in a game played at FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.

Second half early goals from Imane Chabel in the 47th minute and Habiba Karchouni in the 51st minute were enough to guide Algeria to a hard fought victory away from home. 

Fauzia Najjemba scored the consolation goal for the Crested Cranes in the 87th minute from the penalty as they tried to fight back for a point but there efforts could not pay off.

The Crested Cranes started off a better side in the first half of the game but they wasted a couple of chances as they failed to concentrate Infront of goal hence ending the first half on a 0-0 score.

Uganda will have a chance to try and overturn the 2-1 deficit in the return leg as they will be playing away from home in Algeria for a chance to qualify to the final round which will determine who qualifies to the 2024 Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
