RUGBY: KOBs launch Kitaka 10s ahead of the 60years celebrations

The Kampala Old Boys (KOBs) Rugby Football Club launched the return of the Kitaka 10s tournament on Friday 15th September at Legends Rugby grounds.

This comes in to commemorate the late Chairman Edward Kitaka ahead of the 60 years celebrations of the existence of KOBs RFC. It also marks the return of the 10s Rugby games in the country.

The 10 a side tournament were last held in 2014 with Impis holding the Makerere Festival whereas the Kitaka 10s which started in 2006 were also held in 2007 in memory of the late club patron Edward Kitaka.

“The relaunch of the Kitaka 10s ushers in the return of the 10s Rugby in the country as it has been a long time without being held in the country. These matches will provide an opportunity to for players to showcase their skills and strengthen the bond of sportsmanship.” Said Livingston Lugya the KOBs chairman.

“They will also serve as a testament to the enduring spirit, growth and competitiveness of Rugby in Uganda.” He added 

The tournament is also aimed at improving health seeking behaviour of Ugandans and contribute to the development of rugby through HIV screening by partners Human Diagnostics.

This year’s edition will be held on the 30th September and 1st October at Legends Rugby grounds as it will be graced by five rugby clubs from Kenya and 11 rugby clubs from Uganda.

The four teams of the ladies will play a round robin format of which the top two teams will qualify to the ladies main cup final.
