DanceSport: Breaking for Goal Championships entertains revellers at the Beach as B-boys and B-girls seal national team spots

The first of a kind saw the second edition of the National Breaking for Gold Championships being held at the Beach as revellers turned up massive numbers to support their dancers whereas enjoying the cool waters at Lido Beach in Entebbe.

Luleti Farouk who goes by the stage name of B-boy School Boy emerged the winner of the men’s category after defeating Brian Adam with the stage name B-boy Tiger on the finals to take the gold medal home.

In the girls category, it was once again a national team battle as Kawala Sophia with the name B-girl Sophie saw off a tight battle from  Magezi Miracle (B-girl Micco) to claim the gold medal.

The Uganda DanceSport General Secretary Barnabas Ssebuyungo has now turned full focus on preparations to the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifiers with the top six dancers being given the first priority to represent the country in the upcoming WDSF World Breaking Championships in Leuven, Belgium.

“We have been able to select the top 4 male Dancers and 2 female Dancer that are going to represent Uganda DanceSport in Belgium later this month. Our focus has now shifted to preparing this team for the upcoming WDSF World Breaking Championships in Leuven, Belgium.”said Barnabas Ssebuyungo.

“We have managed to hold a successful DanceSport competition at the beach for the very first time and the turn up at Lido Beach Entebbe has been massive as we aim to spread the game to a new audience. DanceSport is an urban sport so it is our target to spread it to different areas which will help us grow bigger as a sport” He added.

The Championship attracted a number of Athletes from all over the different part of the country with dancers from Gulu, Masaka, Jinja, Mbarara, Kaseese, Fort portal, Kampala and other parts.

A total of 32 dancers with 16 Men and 16 Ladies took part as they competed from the Round of 16 pitted in four groups each group with 4 Dancers competing in round robin format.

Gulu District was represented very well with 3 athletes 2 male Dancers and One female Dancer in Oonyu Julius, Brian Adams and Sadat Khan respectively.

French embassy representatives attended the event. MRS Norah Njuba Bwaya a Board Trustees Member of Uganda DanceSport Federation was also in attendance and handed meddles to the top 3 athletes.

Uganda DanceSport Federation general secretary Barnabas Ssebuyungo in a press briefing revealed that the event was indeed a success.

Uganda National Breaking for Gold Championships acted as qualifiers to select athletes that will represent Uganda at the WDSF World Breaking Championship in Leuven – Belgium, come 23rd September.
