The Re-Birth of Lyantonde FC as Nyanzi Dares to bring back top flight football in the region

The faded Lyantonde Football Club was the last team to feature in the Uganda Premier League coming straight from Lyantonde District Football Association before being fully bought off by Uganda Revenue Authority in the early 2000s as they were playing in the Buganda Mini League.

After promotion to the Uganda Premier League, URA FC adopted the name URA-Lyantonde before dropping later to be named URA FC, this saw the club lose its attachments to the locals in Lyantonde town as it was now fully under the management of Uganda Revenue Authority.

Umar Nyanzi a businessman has vowed to revive the faded glory of football in Lyantonde District after launching the return of Lyantonde FC and he is eager to guide it back to playing in the top division in Ugandan Football.

“Lyantonde FC was a strong team in the late 90’s before losing its place to URA FC due to financial muscle and other administrative issues, this was the start to the decline of the club which could bring joy and fun to the locals in Lyantonde town. Today we have launched Lyantonde FC which we would like to see play top flight league football in Uganda as it was in the late 90’s.” Said Umar Nyanzi the interim president of the club.

I also call upon the government of Uganda to help us in developing playgrounds and also constructing some pitches in districts which are far from Kampala.” Added Umar Nyanzi.
